Keith Barrett - PGA Professional

I grew up in Southport on “England´s Golf Coast” and started playing golf when I was nine years old. I became a member of Hillside Golf Club a year later.

A category one player by the age of fourteen, I competed in innumerable club, local, regional and national competitions including the Carris Trophy and The Boys Amateur Championship. In 1978 I was selected to play for Lancashire Boys.

From 1979 to 1984 I studied history and politics at the University of Hull and played regularly for the university golf team. After leaving university, I moved to London and started my career in marketing, event management and public relations before deciding, in 1997, to fulfil a lifelong ambition and become a golf professional. I began my new career in Switzerland and then in 2000 I moved to Portugal to take up the position of Head Professional at Belas Clube de Campo near Lisbon. From January 2014 I will be based at the Pestana Beloura Golf Resort near Sintra, Portugal.

During my time in Portugal I have been the technical editor for Mundo Golf magazine (2006 to 2007) and the instruction advisor for GolfWebtv (2012 to 2013). I served on the Board of Directors of the PGA of Portugal (2008 to 2010). I was appointed to the R&A Golf Development Pool in 2010.

I have been fortunate enough over the last 16 years to play and work in places as diverse as South Africa, The Falkland Islands and, on assignment for the R&A, Kazakhstan.

I enjoy cooking, reading, history, travelling and most sports.
